Praise be to Allah.

Our dreams usually carry a lot of signs, evidence and symbols that motivate us to interpret them.

Since ancient times, people have been accustomed to interpreting dreams in order to know what will happen, and we have no doubt that only God knows the unseen.

The scholars have agreed that there are three types of visions as mentioned in the Prophetic Sunnah:

The first type is the good dream, and it is good tidings from God

The second type is a sad dream from Satan. If one of you sees something he dislikes, let him get up and pray and not tell the people about it.

The most important points about what a person should do if he sees a dream that he dislikes, as follows:

1-He should know that this dream is from the Shaytaan who wants to cause him grief, so he should annoy the Shaytaan by not paying any attention to him.

2-He should seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytaan.

3-He should seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of this dream.

4-He should spit drily to his left three times, i.e., blowing with a little bit of saliva.

5-He should not tell anyone about it.

6-He should turn over from the side on which he was sleeping, so if he was lying on his left side he should turn over to his right side, and vice versa.

7-He should get up and pray.

If a person adheres to this etiquette, then we hope that this bad dream will not harm him, as it says in the texts. And Allaah knows best.

The third type is a vision of what is happening to oneself.

And on the authority of Yahya bin Saeed, on the authority of Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman, on the authority of Abu Qatada, on the authority of The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), peace and blessings be upon him, that he said:

“A dream is from God and a dream is from Satan, so if one of you sees something that he dislikes, let him blow to his left three times and seek God’s protection from its evil, for it will not harm him.”

And On the authority of Abu Hurairah, on the authority of The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), may God bless him and grant him peace, he said:

“Dreams are three, so good tidings from God, self-talk, and intimidation from Satan. If one of you sees a dream that he likes, let him tell if he wants, and if he sees something that he hates, then he should not tell it to anyone, and he should stand and pray.”

Ibn Majah narrated on the authority of Awf bin Malik that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The dreams are three: among them are ravings from Satan to grieve the son of Adam, and some of them are what concerns a man in his wakefulness, and among them are part of the forty-six parts of prophecy.

On the authority of Yahya bin Saeed on the authority of Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman on the authority of Abu Qatada on the authority of The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), that he said: “The dream is from God and the dream is from Satan.

It is obligatory for a Muslim to do a lot of obedience and good deeds and to stay away from lying, immorality and disobedience, for a Muslim’s dream may be as truthful as his uprightness and sincerity when speaking with others.

Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said, may God Almighty have mercy on him, that it is the etiquette of the dreamer to sleep with ablution and on his right side, and they are from the Sunnah of the Prophet. It was happening to himself.

As for the one who sleeps and forgets to perform ablution, then his dreams bear the three types that we mentioned in the article.

And Allah knows best.
